On the Rise: Coach Dan Muller and Illinois State

Illinois State finished the regular season ranked 33rd in the RPI Rankings and 3rd in the Basketball top 25. For this reason, the Red birds will start the Missouri Valley Conference tournament as the top seed.

With these accomplished Illinois State is destined to participate in one of the major post season tournaments in 2017.

Coach Dan Muller’s Illinois State Basketball team has broken several school records this 2016-2017 season and is a team that is on the rise in division 1 college basketball.

Coach Muller’s Illinois State team will split the 2016-2017 regular season championship with Wichita State, which marks the first time in the history of the Missouri Valley Conference that there will be co-champions in a regular season.

With a win over Northern Iowa on Saturday, Illinois State will have 25 regular season victories, which mark the most regular-season victories in program history. It beats the 24 win record that was set after the 1977-1978 season. The win also gives the Red Birds their best conference record in program history at 17-1. That beats the 16 win season set the 1997-1998 season.

Coach Muller is in his fifth season as the head coach at Illinois State. Muller is the first-ever Illinois State coach to beat four Top-25 teams in his first four years.
